That question, asked by a scientist who spent his career inside the pharmaceutical industry, became the foundation for everything we do today from our headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Why We Started

Relevant Nutrition was founded on a simple principle that also became our promise: your nutrition is more than relevant to us. It's backed by research and it's held to a standard most supplement companies never reach, because most supplement companies aren't built by pharmaceutical scientists.
Meet Dr. Samuel E. Silva
Dr. Samuel E. Silva is the founder and CEO of Relevant Nutrition. His path to building a wellness brand wasn't typical; it was shaped by decades of experience in the pharmaceutical world.
Dr. Silva earned his PhD in Pharmacognosy from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 2011. Pharmacognosy is the study of medicines and bioactive compounds derived from natural sources, a discipline that sits at the crossroads of nature, chemistry, and human health.
Before founding Relevant Nutrition, Dr. Silva spent years working with leading pharmaceutical companies, gaining firsthand experience in drug development, regulatory compliance, and the rigorous quality standards that govern the pharmaceutical industry. That background gave him something rare in the supplement space: an understanding of what it actually takes to develop a product that works and the discipline to hold a supplement to pharmaceutical-grade standards.
Today, Dr. Silva also serves as faculty at the University of Georgia's College of Pharmacy. He remains actively engaged in both education and research, bridging the gap between academic science and real-world product development.
But the story of Relevant Nutrition goes even further back — to Dr. Silva's father.
25 Years of Research Behind One Product
Long before Relevant Nutrition existed as a brand, Dr. Silva's father began pioneering work with beta-glucans — naturally occurring polysaccharides found in sources like baker's yeast, known in scientific literature for their interaction with the immune system.
That early work planted a seed. When Dr. Silva completed his PhD and entered the pharmaceutical industry, he continued researching beta-glucans — not as a side project, but as a serious scientific pursuit. Over time, he founded SEMS Biopharma, a biotechnology company dedicated to developing and refining a proprietary beta-glucan formula through exclusive biotechnological processes.
The result of more than 25 years of continuous research and development is Biovit Bioglucan, a liquid supplement containing exclusive beta-glucans (1,3/1,6) suspended in an infusion of Camellia sinensis (tea plant). This isn't a formula that was assembled from off-the-shelf ingredients. It was built from the ground up, by a scientist with the training and patience to do it right.
